Experimental Study of Scour Hole Depth around Bridge Pile Using Efficient Cross-Section

Extensive numerical and analytical studies exist that focus on the scours around bridge piers with different cross-sections. However, addressing scour piles are rather limited not conclusive. Therefore, most efficient cross-section reducing local a pile group is experimentally examined herein. Accordingly, comparative scouring of three shapes, namely, circular, rectangular lenticular, investigated by installing cohesion-less bedding material scaled immersed in clear water. It also shown available pier predictive models grossly underestimate depth holes. For example, hole more than 50% case square circular transpires from experimental investigation shape significant, moderate lenticular minimal.
